LEARN TO SUP
THE BEST TIPS FOR BEGINNERS
Adjust the paddle size
To adjust the size of your paddle, simply open the latch, extend the handle so that it reaches your wrist when your arm is over your head, and then close the latch securely. You are now ready to get on the water!
Staying Balanced on a SUP
Maintaining balance on a Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) requires proper posture and body control. Start by positioning your feet shoulder-width apart, with slightly bent knees to distribute your weight evenly. Keep your gaze fixed on the horizon, not your feet or the board, to help maintain stability. Use small, deliberate movements, and if you feel yourself losing balance, adjust your weight accordingly. Following these simple tips will help ensure a stable and enjoyable SUP experience.
SUP Strokes
it is important to use proper form and technique. Start by keeping your arms straight, using your torso to generate power, and alternating strokes on each side. This not only maintains balance, but also ensures maximum propulsion with each stroke. Remember to engage your core muscles and use a relaxed, steady motion to get the most effective paddle strokes. With practice, you will soon be able to navigate effortlessly and control your SUP with ease.
Falling and getting back up in SUP
Falling off a paddleboard is a normal part of the learning process, and should not discourage you from continuing to improve your skills. In fact, falling can be a good opportunity to practice getting back on the board and keeping your balance. If you fall, try to stay calm and swim back to your board. Then, hold onto the sides, place one foot at a time on the board and slowly get back up. Each time you fall and recover, you will become more confident and skilled in your SUP abilities. So don't be afraid to fall off and get back up - it's part of the journey to becoming a skilled SUP paddler!
Learn from other SUPs
Observing experienced paddlers, either in person or online, can provide you with a wealth of information on proper techniques, safety tips and equipment recommendations. In addition, joining a local SUP club can give you the opportunity to meet and learn from other paddlers. By taking advantage of the knowledge and experience of others, you can accelerate your progress and improve your overall SUP experience.
